The Vermont Frost Heaves defeated the Quebec City Kebekwa 117-87 on November 16 in the team's home opener at the Barre Municipal Auditorium. The Frost Heaves held the lead wire-to-wire and went up by as many as 39 points to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Vermont broke the game open in the first quarter on the strength of a 17-0 run to turn an 8-6 lead into a 25-6 advantage. The Kebekwa rallied in the second quarter to cut the lead to five before the Frost Heaves recovered to head into halftime with a 47-32 lead.
The second half belonged to the home team, as the Frost Heaves steadily built their lead right out of the gate and were never threatened on the way to a convincing win.
Five players reached double-digits in points for Vermont, which saw every player contribute on the offensive end. Aaron Cook led the way for victors, netting a team-high 19 points. Tyrone Levett and Markus Austin were right behind with 18 points apiece, with Austin going 9-9 from the free-throw line. Stowe native Dana Martin put up 11 points while Antonio Burks contributed a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Melvin Creddle guided the action with 10 assists.
Jamal Ward had a game-high 29 points for Quebec City. Ty Brunson had 14 points and Aaron Williams added 10 points in the losing effort.
The Frost Heaves' next game will be their Burlington home opener at Memorial Auditorium when they take on the Buffalo Silverbacks on November 18. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Project Playground founder and star of ESPN's "It's the Shoes" Bobbito Garcia will perform at halftime.
