Kingston Frontenacs (16-14-4-1) edged the Ottawa 67's (16-15-4-1) 6 - 5 in front of over 20,000 at the Corel Centre setting a Canadian Junior Hockey League attendance record. Blake Pronk earned First Star of the Game.
Last night the Fronts and 67's tied 2 - 2 in Kingston; the Frontenacs have not won in Ottawa since November 2001. Leading the Fronts bench tonight is assistant coach Tony Cimellaro and Jamie Pringle for head coach Jim Hulton who is with Anthony Stewart at the 2005 World Junior Hockey Championship. Passing away December 17th. Kingston 4th Round Draft pick Shawn Connors is in his 2nd game as called up from Chatham Maroons Jr. B his first OHL game to fill the Fronts defensive void for rookie Ben Shurton who is with forward Cory Emmerton at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. 7th Round Draft pick Brady Morrison is called up from Petrolia Jets Jr. B to back up Dayne Davis in net as Matthew Spezza is on waivers and has left the team.
First Period Summary: Evan Kotsopoulos (13) opens the scoring unassisted on a breakaway at 03:45. Blake Pronk (4) takes Kingston to a 2 - 0 lead at 05:56 assisted by Tony Rizzi and Michael Kolarz. The Frontenacs keep the penalty box warm starting with Bobby Bolt who is called for Cross Checking at 7:39 followed by Derek Lyons at 11:41 for Holding Opponents Stick. Lyons returns to the box along with 67's 220-pounder Jeremy Akeson for Roughing minors at 15:55. Ottawa scores their first goal at 16:14 by Derek Joslin (4) assisted by Mark Mancari and Brad Bonello. In a an 18-second span Ottawa ties the game Brad Bonello (13) assited by Derek Joslin and Bryan Bickell. Pushing and shoving closes the period in front of the loud CHL Record breaking crowd at the Corel Centre. Shots on Goal favour the 67's 24 to 12. Ottawa and Kingston tied at 2.
Second Period Summary: Ottawa's Brody Todd serves his Roughing penalty starting the period. Evan Kotsopoulos is caught for Hooking at 0:35. Jeremy Akeson (6) scores on the powerplay assisted by Brad Bonello and Julian Talbot taking the lead at 02:21. Todd Griffith (15) replies for Kingston assisted by Evan Kotsopoulos and Radek Smolenak at 07:06. Chris Hulit goes after Bobby Bolt 11-sconds later and both get Fighting majors. 67's Jeremy Akeson is called for Hooking at 12:54. Adam Nemeth passes long to Chris Stewart feeding Bobby Hughes (7) who scores at 15:12. Todd Griffith hits 67's Brody Todd high who wacks back at Griffith and Radek Smolenak skates into taking exception and gets into a pushing match with Todd; both Todd and Smolenak get Roughing minors while Griffith serves Cross Checking. Third Period Summary: Bryan Bickell sets up Julian Talbot (15) who fires a shot that trickles in off Bobby Hughes skate at 04:04. Kingston replies with Blake Pronk (5) beating Guadagnolo assisted by Phil Mangan at 04:27. Moments later, Dayne Davis was roughed up in his crease; Andy Brown, Head Trainer attends to Davis who is able to go the full 60-minutes in net. At 5:10 High Sticking called on Kyle Raftis. Evan Kotsopoulos finds Todd Griffith (16) scoring short-handed during the Raftis penalty at 06:20. Ottawa goes on their 6th powerplay opportunity of the night as Phil Mangan goes off for Hooking at 8:41. Jeremy Akeson is caught Tripping at 11:03. 17:30, Ottawa trims the lead by 1 as Bryan Bickell (11) slides the puck just under Davis who was out of the play; assisted by Bonello, and Joslin. 67's go with 6-attackers with one minute 6 seconds remaining. Shots of Goal favour 67's this period 21 to 5. Kingston Frontenacs edge Ottawa 67's 6 - 5 breaking an eleven game winless streak in Ottawa.
Frontenacs goalie Dayne Davis faced 64 shots while Anthony Guadagnolo faced 29.

Kingston Frontenacs had 20 players dressed. Anthony Stewart and Coach Jim Hulton are away at the 2005 World Junior Championship. Rookies Ben Shutron and Cory Emmerton are in Lethbridge, AB playing for Ontario at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Danny Revelle is listed day-to-day with concusion-like symptoms.
Kingston Frontenacs return home this Saturday to host Oshawa (2:00 PM) for their annual New Year's Day matinee.

Earlier this evening (December 30) Canada defeated Finland 8-1 to clinch top spot in its pool at the 2005 World Junior Hockey Championship. Canada (4-0) earned the right to bypass Saturday's quarter-finals and go to Sunday's semifinals. The squad dominated the teams in its pool, outscoring its opposition by a whopping 32-5 margin.
