Frontenacs Name John McFarland Assistant Coach to Complete 2021-22 Coaching and Support Staff

Kingston, Ontario - The Kingston Frontenacs Hockey Club has completed the search for an Assistant Coach with the hiring of John McFarland for the role.

John is a former first overall pick in the OHL. The Richmond Hill, Ontario native was selected by the Sudbury Wolves at the 2008 OHL Priority Selection. He spent his four-year OHL career with the Sudbury Wolves, Saginaw Spirit, and Ottawa 67's.

The Florida Panthers selected him in the second round of the 2010 NHL draft. He spent seven seasons playing professional hockey in the ECHL, AHL, NHL, and various European leagues.

Since retiring as a player in 2019, the now 29-year-old McFarland has launched his own skills development company in the GTA. In 2020, he was added to the Frontenacs scouting staff as a Crossover Scout and has worked with the staff to help with the draft process.

"John is a passionate, bright, young hockey mind who can directly relate to our players through his experiences in the game. He will be key on the skill development side, and his experience in teaching compliments our staff nicely." said Head Coach Luca Caputi. "I look forward to seeing his development as a coach first hand as part of our program."

General Manager Kory Cooper was impressed with McFarland from the start "John was very impressive throughout the interview process. He showcased his work ethic, ability to communicate, and attention to detail for both team and individual concepts." said Cooper. "John brings forth relatable messaging to today's players along with an ability to teach. This makes him a great compliment to the rest of our coaching staff"

With the hiring of McFarland, the Hockey Operations staff is now set for the 2021-22 season.

"We are excited to have finalized our coaching and support staff. We have assembled a cohesive group that cares about team first." said GM Cooper. "The staff's relentless care for developing players and achieving team success will be evident in our play. We will continue to build together in preparation for the upcoming season."

2021-22 Hockey Operations team:

Kory Cooper - General Manager - Returned to the Kingston Frontenacs in 2020 as Assistant General Manager. Entering his first season as General Manager. Kory previously spent time with the Frontenacs as a Goaltending Coach before joining the Ottawa Senators organization in the same role.

Luca Caputi - Head Coach - Joined the Kingston Frontenacs in 2018. Luca is entering his first season as a Head Coach following five seasons as an Assistant/Associate Coach with the Guelph Storm and Kingston Frontenacs.

Chris Longo - Assistant Coach/Skill Development - Joined the Kingston Frontenacs in 2018 as Skills Coach. Chris was promoted to Assistant Coach in 2019 with an emphasis on skills development.

John McFarland - Assistant Coach - Joined the Kingston Frontenacs in 2020 as Crossover Scout. John has been hired as the team's Assistant Coach for 2021-22 season.

Chris Cook - Equipment Manager - Joined the Kingston Frontenacs in 2015. Chris spent 12 seasons with the Ottawa Senators before joining Kingston. He has also worked various Hockey Canada events and was part of the Equipment Support Staff during the NHL bubble season in 2020. He has recently been named to Hockey Canada's staff for the upcoming U-18 tournament.

Chris Nelson - Athletic Therapist - Joined the Kingston Frontenacs in 2019. Chris Graduated from Sheridan College in 2018. He worked at Carleton University as an Athletic Therapist during the 2018-19 season before joining the Frontenacs.

Troy Paquette - Team Services Coordinator/Video Coach - Joined the Kingston Frontenacs in 2018 as the team's Video Coach. Troy was promoted to Team Services Coordinator on July 19, 2021. He was recently named to Hockey Canada's staff for the upcoming U-18 tournament.

Kevin Walker - Assistant Equipment Manager - Joined the Kingston Frontenacs in 2014. Kevin will be continuing his role and assisting Head Equipment Manager Chris Cook.
