Slippery Rock, PA -Former Slippery Rock Sliders pitcher Pete Parise, who had his contract purchased by the St. Louis Cardinals earlier this season, has been promoted. Parise, who was first assigned to the Johnson City Cardinals of the rookie-level Appalachian League, has been promoted to the Batavia Muckdogs of the class-A New York-Penn League.

Parise appeared in four games for Johnson City, allowing one run in 4.1 innings while striking out three batters. He earned saves in two of these contests.

Parise became the first Frontier League player from the 2007 regular season to have his contract purchased by a Major League Baseball team when the St. Louis Cardinals obtained his rights on June 15. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Parise saw action in six games for the Sliders, recording a 0-1 record with a 4.65 ERA and 13 strikeouts with only one walk in 10.1 innings. Parise did not allow a run in his last four outings, striking out ten batters while allowing only three hits and not issuing a walk over 6.2 innings.

"With the success that Pete had here along with the good start that he had in Johnson City, we are not surprised that he was quickly moved up by the Cardinals," commented Sliders' pitching coach Adam Shafer. "Pete's velocity and command have him in line for a solid professional career."

The Slippery Rock Sliders open a three-day homestand tonight with a 5:05 pm double-header against the Washington Wild Things. The Florence Freedom come to Jack Critchfield Park on Monday, July 2 and Tuesday, July 3 for 7:05 pm contest.
