Green Bay Rockers News Release
Waterloo, IA - Green Bay had the tying runs in scoring position in the eighth inning, but another sparkling defensive play helped down the Bullfrogs who lost 4-2 on Saturday night in Waterloo against the Bucks.
The Bullfrogs were down by two in the top of the eighth inning when Joe Betcher and Nick Stein led the frame off with a pair of singles. After a Billy Moon strike out, Nik Balog stepped to the plate with both Betcher and Stein in scoring position after a pair of stolen bases. Balog was already 2-3 with two RBI in his Bullfrog debut. In his fourth at bat in the eighth he struck out swinging against reliever Jake Thomas. With two outs and both runners still in scoring position Cameron Dullnig hit a line drive to the left side that the shortstop Drew Walsh leaped up and caught to save the Bucks two run lead. It was the second time in two nights that Dullnig was robbed with the tying run in scoring position in the eighth inning.
The 'Frogs got on the board first for the second night in a row. Betcher got hit in the first at bat of the game and was driven in later by Nik Balog on the first pitch he saw as a Bullfrog. The game had settled in after that. Bucks starter Jake Powers did not allow another hit until the sixth inning while he retired 12 in a row as he earned his first win of the year.
Zak Hermans made his debut on Saturday with a six inning, seven hit performance as he took the loss after allowing four runs. He had cruised through the first four allowing just two base runners. In the fifth, Hermans issued his first walk to the inning's first hitter. Three pitches later Jeff Popick gave Waterloo a 2-1 lead with a two run homer to center.
The 'Frogs responded in the next half inning to tie it up. Stein had one of his two singles and two stolen bases on Saturday to put himself in scoring position for Nik Balog once again. Balog would again capitalize with a RBI double. In the bottom of the seventh, the Bucks took the lead for good. Andrew Ewing reached after a strikeout and wild pitch, then Cameron Perkins followed that up with a single. Jordan Adams would drive in Ewing, then Perkins and Ewing moved into scoring position on an errant throw home from Betcher. The error allowed Jeremy Hill to drive in Perkins with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2.
It is the first time this season that Green Bay has lost two games in a row. The 'Frogs fall to 6-5 on the year and 1-2 on the current five game road trip.
