
Fritz Recalled by New York Islanders

FRITZ RECALLED BY NEW YORK ISLANDERSThird-year forward ranks fourth among all AHL players in both points and assists BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (January 1, 2018) - The New York Islanders announced today forward Tanner Fritz has been recalled from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League.
Fritz, 26, recorded 35 points (10 goals, 25 assists) in 29 games with Bridgeport during his third season in the AHL. The Grand Prairie, Alberta native leads the Sound Tigers in points, assists and multi-point games (11), and ranks fourth in the league in both points and assists. This marks the first NHL call-up of Fritz's career.
The Islanders signed Fritz to a two-way (NHL/AHL) deal on March 29, 2016. Last season, Fritz scored 42 points (19 goals, 23 assists) in 63 games and has collected 89 points (31 goals, 58 assists) in 111 career AHL games.
Prior to turning pro, Fritz played four seasons at Ohio State University (Big Ten), captaining the team during his senior season. Fritz scored 110 points (36 goals, 74 assists) in 142 collegiate games and won back-to-back Big Ten Sportsmanship Awards in 2014 and 2015 while playing for the Buckeyes.
Next Time Out: The Sound Tigers open the 2018 portion of their schedule on Wednesday with a 7:05 p.m. matchup against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Fans can follow all of the live action on the Sound Tigers Radio Network and AHL Live, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m.
