Frisco RoughRiders News Release

FRISCO, Texas - The Frisco RoughRiders scored late to come from behind and topple the Wichita Wind Surge in 10 innings at Riders Field Tuesday night, 4-3. Trailing 3-2 with two outs in the bottom of the 9th, right fielder Aaron Zavala singled in the tying run, setting up first baseman Blaine Crim to plate the winning run in the 10th.

Riders reliever Marc Church held Wichita scoreless with the final two innings, giving up a hit and finishing with a strikeout.

Left fielder Kellen Strahm highlighted Tuesday's early stages with a solo home run in the bottom of the 1t, his eighth of the season and his second homer in his last three games.

Frisco (25-20, 61-53) starter Antoine Kelly didn't allow a hit in three innings, finishing with three walks and three strikeouts. Along with Church (1-2), Frisco used a storm of five different relievers in the Tuesday loss, combining for six strikeouts and two walks in six innings.

Wichita reliever Denny Bentley (6-1) entered to face Frisco in the bottom of the 10th, giving up the leadoff single to Crim to end the game.

The RoughRiders struck first against Wichita (30-16, 65-49) in the bottom of the inning with Strahm's leadoff homer, taking an early 1-0 lead. Strahm's home run came as his second in his last three games, as he went deep against Corpus Christi on August 19th.

Despite not finding their first hit until the top of the 4th inning, Wichita evened Tuesday's score to 1-1 in the top of the 3rd with a sacrifice fly from designated hitter Aaron Sabato.

The Riders responded with a leadoff double in the bottom of the 3rd from center fielder Josh Stowers. With one out, shortstop Jonathan Ornelas singled to left field, scoring Stowers and giving Frisco the lead back at 2-1.

Wichita plated two unanswered runs in the top of the 4th and 6th innings. After a leadoff double from Alex Isola, Yunior Severino brought him around on a sacrifice fly, tying Tuesday's score at 2-2. The Wind Surge scored again in the top of the 6th on an RBI single from Isola, his second hit of the night, to take their first lead of the night, 3-2.

Down to their final three outs, the RoughRiders rallied to begin the 9th with a leadoff single from catcher David Garcia and a walk from Stowers. With Jax Biggers pinch running for Garcia, Zavala singled Biggers in from second to tie Tuesday's game, 3-3.

After Church dealt with the Wind Surge in the top of the 10th and stranded the inherited runner, Crim singled in Justin Foscue for Frisco's second walk-off win of the season.

The RoughRiders and Wind Surge continue the series at Riders Field Wednesday night with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch, as Frisco's Jack Leiter (3-8, 5.50 ERA) opposes Wichita RHP Cody Laweryson (4-0, 1.05 ERA).

Wednesday nights are meant for Texas Baseball Legends at Riders Field, as every Wednesday brings out a Rangers great for a meet and greet. Former Rangers pitcher Tim Crabtree, who played from 1998-2001 with Texas, is scheduled to be on hand on Wednesday, August 24th, prior to the 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
