Frisco RoughRiders News Release
The RoughRiders pulled within two games of first-place Midland, defeating the RockHounds 4-2
Frisco managed just four hits, but used timely hitting to defeat Midland 4-2 on Saturday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Frisco starter Omar Poveda (10-5) struck out a season-best seven as Craig Gentry led the offense with a pair of RBI.
The RoughRiders did all their scoring in the third inning when Gentry hit a two-run triple to score Renny Osuna and Marcus Lemon, followed by an RBI double by Dustin Majewski and an RBI ground out by Steve Murphy to give Frisco the 4-0 advantage. The RockHounds chipped away at Frisco's lead, scoring a pair of runs in the sixth inning, but the RoughRiders' bullpen kept the RockHounds off the scoreboard, preserving the 4-2 win.
Poveda allowed two runs on eight hits over six innings, striking out seven and walking two to become the first Frisco pitcher to reach double digit wins on the season. Beau Jones notched his second save, pitching a scoreless 1.1 innings. Midland starter Graham Godfrey (11-8) took the loss, allowing all four runs over five innings.
Lemon had a pair of hits for Frisco and Gentry recorded two RBI. The RockHounds out-hit Frisco 12-4 as Midland left 14 runners on base and were just 3-for-14 with runners in scoring position.
The RoughRiders move two games behind Midland in the South Division as the race for the playoffs heats up. Game two of the series is Sunday at Dr Pepper Ballpark with first pitch at 6 p.m.
