April 10, 2009 - Texas League (TL1)
Springfield Cardinals News Release
The Frisco RoughRiders exacted a little revenge over the Springfield Cardinals on Friday night, as they blanked the Cardinals 10-0 at Hammons Field. One night after the Cardinals pounded out 16 runs and 17 hits, the RoughRiders shut out the Cardinals, holding Springfield's offense to just five hits.
Kasey Kiker (1-0) was brilliant, holding the Cardinals to just two hits over five shut-out innings.
Cards' starter Justin Fiske (0-1) gave up a two-run dinger to Steve Murphy in the second inning, putting the Riders ahead to stay at 2-0. Fiske allowed a two-run single with two outs to Manny Pina in the fourth, as Frisco took a 4-0 lead.
Springfield pitching broke down in the sixth, as Fiske and Kenny Maiques combined to issue seven walks and one hit batter, as the RoughRiders scored five times without the aid of a hit, blowing the game open at 9-0.
Justin Smoak's solo shot off of Tyler Norrick in the eighth capped the scoring at 10-0.
The Cards (1-1) and RoughRiders (1-1) conclude their series on Saturday afternoon. Empire Bank will be on hand giving away Green Cardinals Caps to 2,500 fans. Gates open at 1:10 and game time is 2:10pm. Don't forget that the Cardinals will welcome Midland to town on Sunday, as they open a three-game series. Tickets are available by visiting the Hammons Field Ticket Office, online at springfieldcardinals.com or by calling (417) 863-2143. Escape to Cardinals Baseball!
INTRODUCING THE CARDINAL BASH!
Andy's Frozen Custard and the Springfield Cardinals have teamed up for a new treat sure to hit a homerun! It's the Cardinal Bash named in honor of the Springfield Cardinals. The concrete-style treat begins with creamy vanilla custard and adds chunks of the famous toffee Heath Bar. Fresh almond slivers, maraschino cherries and rich chocolate syrup complete this signature treat. Carol Kuntz, founder of Andy's Frozen Custard has a prediction... "We just might have to add another line to that phrase, âbaseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet.' How does it sound if we add âCardinal Bash' to the mix?"
For Springfieldians, Andy's Frozen Custard has been a tradition for over 20 years. So has baseball. Now there is a perfect opportunity to combine the two.
"I have always been a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and when the league came to Springfield I was thrilled," admitted owner Andy Kuntz. "We have always been supporters of the Springfield team with our advertising and the promotion of the fifth inning homerun deal. But this season we have decided to truly dedicate our efforts by naming a signature treat after our favorite team."
The Cardinal Bash is served in three sizes and is now available at all four Springfield Andy's Frozen Custard locations.
Be sure and look for the Andy's promotion in the bottom of the fifth inning at all Springfield Cardinals home games. Go Cards!
