Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. - Friday night is Fridge Magnet Schedule Giveaway Night at Westoba Place as the Wheat Kings open up the second weekend of the 2019-20 Western Hockey League season against the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors.

The Wheat Kings kicked off the regular season last weekend by splitting a home and home series with the Winnipeg Ice while Moose Jaw lost in Regina but beat the Pats 5-3 the following night on home ice.

Former Warrior Luka Burzan scored twice to lead the Wheat Kings in Winnipeg, in what turned out to be his 100th career game in a Brandon uniform. Through the first two games of the regular season, the Colorado Avalanche draft pick has two goals and four points, after scoring 40 goals and 78 points during the 2019-20 campaign.

While Burzan is off to a great start, two veterans have had their early season slowed by suspensions. Center Ridly Greig will miss both games this weekend as he completes a 3-game suspension handed down by the league office earlier this week while Ben McCartney will sit out Friday after being slapped with a one game suspension. McCartney received a charging major in game two against the Ice last weekend while Greig was suspended for a hit on Winnipeg defenceman Chase Hartje in the opening minute of last Friday's Home Opener.

Friday night will be the first of six meetings between these two teams this season. During last year's series, the Wheat Kings compiled a 4-3-1 record against the Warriors but were outscored 26-21. Tristin Langan led Moose Jaw in scoring with four goals and 16 points against Brandon while Burzan had three goals and 7 points against his former team.

Moose Jaw finished last season in third place in the Eastern Division with a 40-20-6-2 record while the Wheat Kings missed the playoffs by two points, after compiling a 31-29-4-4 mark.

Tickets to Friday's game are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.

The first 2,500 in attendance Friday will receive a 2019-20 Fridge Magnet Schedule, courtesy of Manitoba Hydro.
