Cape Cod Frenzy News Release

Orleans, Massachusetts: It wasn't pretty but the Cape Cod Frenzy successfully defended home court against a scrappy, undermanned Montreal Matrix squad, in front of a boisterous crowd 114-113.

The Frenzy fell behind by twenty two points early, at 43-21 in the second quarter, as the visitors stunned the home crowd with hot three point shooting and several steals and 3D baskets. Cape Cod began full court pressing and the Frenzy went on a 29-7 run to close within seven at 57-50 with just minutes to go in the first half. But the Matrix responded with a three pointer by Bobby Miller and a fast break layup to extend the lead back out to twelve: 62-50 at halftime.

The Frenzy continued to attack in the third quarter eventually grabbing a 71-70 lead and going up by as much as eight at 84-76. But Montreal continued to fight and reclaimed the lead early in the fourth quarter. After all the hard work to come from behind, Cape Cod now found themselves staring at a five point deficit with just 1:42 remaining in the game! Frenzy point guard Steve Hailey picked the ball clean from his opponent, and proceeded to go down court and score a go ahead basket with just 50 seconds remaining. Montreal's Bobby Miller responded with a driving layup to put Montreal back on top at 113-112 with 24 ticks left in the game. The Frenzy called timeout to set up a final play. Once again, Hailey came up the hero, taking his man off the dribble and lofting a high floater off the glass over 6'11 Matrix center Uche Okafor, for the winner. The Matrix had one last try with 5 seconds left but missed and Richmond Pittman came up with the rebound for the Frenzy as time expired, preserving the 114-113 win.

The game was an exciting back and forth affair complete with kids' contests, a music DJ, a dance group, and a live Kung Fu demonstration at halftime. 96.3 the Rose's own Stephanie Diva was the evening's MC on the microphone.

Richmond Pittman Jr. led the Frenzy with 29 points. New Frenzy signee, Raheim Lamb (UMass + Curry College) scored 18 points and was active on the glass all night. Sly McIntosh scored 15, Jamaal Brooks 14, Jermaine Watson 13, and Steve Hailey 11. Bobby Miller of the Matrix led all scorers with 38 and Damon Jones had 33.
