MAYWOOD, Calif. -- Jacob Stevenson continued his torrid play to start the season, scoring a game-high 31 points and helping the Bellingham Slam defeat the Carson Buzz of Maywood, 120-100, in an American Basketball Association game Saturday night.

Bellingham, eager to get back on the court after Thursday's suspended game in Tijuana, stormed out to a 20-6 lead to open the game, thanks in part to three straight baskets by Mike Parker in the first 57 seconds of play.

Leading 32-21 after the first quarter, the Slam stretched their lead to 19 points before the Buzz were able to regroup and pull within 10 points, at 57-47, on a Marcell Jackson put-back that just beat the buzzer to close the first half.

The two teams played evenly for the duration of the third quarter and well into the fourth, before Bellingham was finally able to put the game out of reach with a 10-1 run in a two-minute span with less than four minutes to play. The Slam outscored the Buzz 36-28 in the quarter to give the team its third straight game with a margin of victory of 20 points or greater.

Stevenson led five Slam players in double figures, with Parker and Brandon Hartley adding 26 and 21 points, respectively. Brian Dennis had a career night in the post, pulling down 17 boards.

The Slam now travel down I-5 to take on the San Diego Wildcats on Sunday at 5 p.m. The team will return home to welcome the Fresno Heatwave in a pair of games Dec. 12 and 13 at Whatcom Pavilion.
