Texas Tycoons News Release
Dallas, TX - In a game featuring a Waco Wranglers team searching for their first victory on the road at the 9-3 Texas Tycoons, Waco aided by 38 Texas fouls and 49 free throw attempts wins 137-131.
Waco was led in scoring by Mario Kinsey (6'2''-G-82, college: Texas Coll.), the point guard went to the foul line 15 times en route to his game high 43 points. Newly acquired Mike Reed went to the foul line another 12 times amassing 28 points on the night, and Chris Johnson who was 7-8 from the line had 27. For the Tycoons, 5 of their top 6 players were in serious foul trouble all night. Tyrone Rayson had 6, Randall Williams 6, Brandon Lee (6'3''-G, college: Tarleton St.), Chris Williams (6'8''-F, college: Tarleton St.), and Jerome Rogers (5'10''-G-81, college: N.Texas) all finished with 5 fouls each. Scoring for the Tycoons had Rogers with 22, Josh Gonner (6'2''-G-82, college: S.Carolina) with 20, Donnie Beacham (6'5''-F-81, college: Texas Arlington) and Brandon Lee both finished with 19, and Chris Williams had 15 in a losing effort.
Texas Coach Terrell when asked about the foul disparity stated "When you've got one team that is getting their rhythm at the free throw line all night and another that is taking the ball out of the basket it really can have a disruptive effect on the flow of the game. Not too many teams win games when they're a minus 20 in foul calls. I'm not pointing the finger at anyone other than ourselves but 56 fouls seems like an even higher number when over 2/3rds of them are against the home team." With the win Waco moves to 1-8 on the season, while Texas falls to 9-4. Final score in Dallas, Waco Wranglers 137, Texas Tycoons 131.
The Tycoons now prepare to meet the Arkansas Aeros today at Mountain View College, tip-off is scheduled for 4pm. The Tycoons look to rebound against the #1 rated team in the ABA according to the recent power rankings.
