Cape Cod Frenzy News Release
Brooklyn, New York: The Cape Cod Frenzy of the American Basketball Association (ABA) regained their winning form by overcoming the Brooklyn Wonders 110-108, on the road. The Frenzy bounce back from consecutive home losses last weekend to the Vermont Frost Heaves.
The first quarter saw the Frenzy, who are still without the services of their leading scorer and rebounder (6'7 forward Rob Sanders), jump out to an 11-3 early lead behind the hot three point shooting of Dustin Hellenga (3-3 in the first quarter). However, the Brooklyn Wonders took advantage of the short handed Frenzy front line by crashing the offensive boards. They continued to out rebound the Frenzy and offensive caroms led to numerous put backs. The Wonders took a 55-46 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half Coach Clarke went to a 3-2 zone defense to help create team rebounding opportunities and keep the Wonders at bay. The move began to pay dividends as the Frenzy neutralized the first half rebounding disadvantage. In the fourth quarter, the Frenzy began to press full court. Brooklyn's players began to wilt under the pressure and turned the ball over repeatedly. Cape Cod capitalized on the turnovers and turned a nine point deficit into a 90-90 tie with 3:56 to go in the game.
A block by 6'11 center Ife Anosike gave the possession back to the Frenzy. Richmond Pittman drained a 3 pointer from the top of the circle to push the Frenzy over the top at 93-90. The Wonders retaliated by trying a press of their own, but Frenzy point guard Steve Hailey picked it apart with precision pinpoint passes for breakaway lay ups by Frenzy players. Jermaine Watson iced the game late with 6 consecutive free throws.
Richmond Pittman led the Frenzy with 28 points, Jermaine Watson added 22, and Steve Hailey chipped in 18 points and 9 assists.
The Frenzy face the Strong Island Sound tomorrow night in Long Island at 7 P.M. The Sound defeated the Frenzy back on November 18th 116-97. The game will be broadcast live on www.audiosportsonline.net. The Frenzy's next home game is next Sunday December 10, 2006 at Barnstable High School versus the Montreal Matrix. Tickets are 14.00 for adults, 8.00 for students with ID, and 4.00 for kids under 12.
