Shockwave win in OT
December 2, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Big Valley Shockwave News Release
Led by Power Forward Sante Gayle's 43 points, the Big Valley Shockwave captured its first win of the season in local American Basketball Association action in overtime over the Sacramento Heatwave by a final score of 109-108 at John H. Pitman High School in Turlock, Ca.
Gayle's 16 points in the third quarter alone were enough to pull the Shockwave into a 80-80 tie heading into the final period. However, Sacramento's Edward Walden's 5 second half 3-pointers took both teams into the extra period. That's when the home Shockwave kept riding Gayle's hot hand as he scored Big Valley's 5 of the 6 points in capturing the win.
Bruce Cooper chipped in with 16 points while adding in 2 key late blocks. Guard Myree Bowden and reserve Kavin Young added 12 a piece for the Shockwave. The Heatwave were led by Walden's 30 points while point guard Derek Foster added 26, including 6-3 pointers. While Jamal Joseph added a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists.
