Cape Cod Frenzy News Release

Bourne, Massachusetts: The Cape Cod Frenzy's star forward, Rob Sanders, rose to the occasion and hit a game winning shot to defeat the Newark Express 104-103 at Bourne Middle School. The win snapped a five game losing streak for the Frenzy who are now 7-9 on the season.

The game started with both teams feeling each other. The Frenzy started a smaller lineup, and as a result, 6'10 Express center Sekani Francis had his way inside. His layup plus the foul gave Newark an early 16-13 lead. Missed opportunities on offense by the Frenzy allowed Newark to extend to a 29-21 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Guard Bilal Abdullah saw his first action in a Frenzy uniform and provided a spark off the bench in the second quarter. Abdullah's pass to a streaking Raheim Lamb ended with an emphatic slam which brought the Frenzy to within 29-27. Later Jamaal Brooks found 6'11 Ife Anosike on the baseline for a two handed jam, and the Frenzy grabbed the lead back at 45-44 with 4:00 minutes to go in the first half. The half concluded with Newark clinging to a two point lead at 53-51.

In the third quarter, the Frenzy forwards got out on the break as Richmond Pittman scored on a soaring slam dunk, and followed that with a streaking layup after a steal. Abdullah then made a three pointer and the Frenzy grabbed a 76-70 lead. Newark hung tough however and the third quarter came to a close at 81-80 - Frenzy.

In the 4th quarter, Newark seemingly seized control of the game with the score 95-86. Then Sly McIntosh nailed a three pointer and Rich Pittman scored a baseline layup and suddenly the Express lead was down to four at 95-91 with 4:51 to play.

The two teams battled hard for the next several minutes, and Steve Hailey's three pointer from wing brought the Frenzy to within one at 101-100, Newark. A steal by McIntosh lead to a thunderous Rich Pittman slam down the middle for the go ahead bucket, 102-101, Frenzy, with just 44 seconds remaining.

Newark then got the ball to Sekani Francis in the post, and he made a short turnaround shot to put Newark back up by one, at 103-102 with 23 seconds left. The Frenzy called timeout and Coach Clarke drew up a play for Rob Sanders. Sanders got the ball isolated on the top of the key. He shook his defender with a cross over dribble and pulled up for a shot at the free throw line and sunk it for a 104-103 Frenzy lead! Newark called timeout with 13 seconds left and worked for a final shot. The shot hit glass and went halfway down into the cylinder before fortuitously popping out; and the Frenzy escaped with the victory!

Richmond Pittman led the Frenzy with 22 points, Rob Sanders contributed 20, and Raheim scored 16 points off the bench. Sekani Francis led the Express with 23 points.

The Frenzy face the new Montreal ABA team at Bourne Middle School next Saturday night at 7:05PM. You can always buy Frenzy tickets online at www.capecodfrenzy.com via E-Ticket or at the game.
