Arkansas Aeros News Release

SPRINGDALE - Bob Hoffman of the Arkansas Aeros was named Sunday the head coach for the West All Stars in the Jan. 28th American Basketball Association All-Star Game in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Hoffman has led the Aeros to a 17-2 record in their first year in the ABA and to the top spot in the league's Power Rankings for the last six weeks.

"The immediate goals coming into the season were putting a team together and finding ways to win games," Hoffman said. "This (being named an all-star coach) was something that I never really thought about it, but it is truly a tremendous honor."

Under Hoffman, the Aeros are leading the league in scoring at 131.0 points per game and in scoring margin (19.3 points a game) over their opponents.

Hoffman is a former University of Oklahoma assistant coach under Kelvin Sampson. Before joining the Sooners, Hoffman was the head coach for the men's teams at Texas-Pan American and Oklahoma Baptist University, his alma mater. His Southern Nazarene University women's team won the NAIA National Championship in 1989 when he also won National Coach of the Year honors.

According to Tom Doyle, ABA president, "The coaches were selected by the positions of their teams in the ABA Power Rankings as of Saturday night. The coaches of the three highest-ranked teams in the East and West will be honored with the top two coaches named head coach."

Hoffman will be assisted on the West bench by Chris Terrell of the Texas Tycoons and Larry McKenzie of the Minnesota Ripknees. Will Voight of the Vermont Frost Heaves will be the East head coach. He will be assisted by Rod Baker of the Rochester Razor Sharks and Steve Tucker of the Jacksonville Jam.
