Lancaster Stormers News Release

The Lancaster Barnstormers bats continue to struggle in the spring of 2015. Their former players do not.

Former Lancaster infielder Casey Frawley went 3-for-3 and was involved in all three Southern Maryland runs as the Blue Crabs upended the Barnstormers in Lancaster's final exhibition game against an Atlantic League opponent Monday afternoon at Regency Furniture Stadium.

With the score tied at 1-1, Frankie Viola walked the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Frawley deposited a fly ball down the right field line just in front of a charging Brian Cavazos-Galvez to plate the tiebreaking runs.

It was Frawley who also triggered the Crabs' first run. Leading off the third against Matt Packer, the Southern Maryland shortstop grounded a double down the third base line. Antone DeJesus slapped a single into the hole at short, and Fred Lewis followed suit for the 1-0 lead.

Lancaster mustered the tying run in the sixth. Lance Zawadzki lined a leadoff single into center, and Dan Coury rapped a base hit into left advancing the lead runner to second. Yusuke Kajimoto bounded into a 1-6 force out with Zawadzki moving to third. Jerry Owens plated the run with a sacrifice fly to left.

Coury had two of the Barnstormers' four singles on the afternoon. Southern Maryland banged out 10 hits in the official game.

Wade Korpi, who surrendered the run in the sixth got the win. Erik Hamren worked a perfect ninth for the save.

The Barnstormers host Lancaster Bible College at 2:00 on Tuesday afternoon in the final tuneup before departing for Texas on Wednesday. Lancaster will open the season on Thursday evening with right-hander Bryan Evans on the hill.

NOTES: Southern Maryland plated three extra runs off Pete Andrelczyk and non-roster pitcher Bobby Lucas in a phantom bottom of the ninth inning...Packer allowed four hits and one run in three innings...Scott Gracey gave up two hits and struck out two in a pair of innings...Shoki Kakihara, Masato Fukae and Keith Castillo all got into the game late and made the three outs in the ninth.
