Lancaster Stormers News Release

Wayne Franklin fanned 11 in eight innings, and Adam Witter belted two homers as the Lancaster Barnstormers hammered the Camden Riversharks, 11-2, in front of 7,122 Saturday evening at Campbell's Field.

The Barnstormers are now 5-1 on their current southern road trip.

Franklin allowed only five hits and a run during his eight-inning stint while walking two. He only got into one significant jam on the night. In the second inning, Chris Malec walked to lead off and Raul Padron laced a ground rule double into right center. Teuris Olivares bunted Malec home and sent Padron to third. Estee Harris grounded to second base, but Padron was held at third, and Juan Francia bounced back to the mound with Franklin holding a 2-1 lead.

Lancaster had grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Aaron Herr launched a double to center and scored on a single lined into right center by Reggie Taylor. Taylor stole both second and third, his first steals since July 2, and scored on a ground out to third by Vic Gutierrez.

Lloyd Turner hit a one-out solo homer to left in the top of the third inning for a 3-1 lead. L.J. Biernbaum was walked by Gabriel Alfaro (2-6) and moved to third on a seeing-eye single to right by Bryant Nelson. Aaron Herr's grounder to third was thrown home by Malec, and Matt Ceriani tagged out Biernbaum with a perfect block of the plate. Taylor doubled into the right field corner to score Nelson. Witter followed with a towering fly ball that cleared Harris' leaping try at the right field wall for a 7-1 lead.

The Barnstormers continued the attack in the fourth. Octavio Martinez was hit by a pitch and took second on a walk to Joe Gaetti. Lloyd Turner also walked against reliever Eddy Camacho to load the bases. Camacho got through Biernbaum and Nelson, but Herr grounded a two-run single up the middle for a 9-1 edge. Turner scored on a passed ball before Camacho could get Taylor for the final out.

Witter's second homer of the night, hit on a string down the right field line, capped the Barnstormers attack on the night.

The Barnstormers conclude the series and the trip Sunday afternoon at 1:05. Josh Hall (12-5) will start for Lancaster against former Padres catcher Ben Davis (3-9). A seven-game homestand begins Monday with Southern Maryland visiting the Barnstormers at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
