
Francisco Calvo Named to Costa Rica National Team 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup Roster

CHICAGO - Chicago Fire FC today announced that captain Francisco Calvo has been named to the Costa Rica National Team roster for the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup. Calvo traveled to Costa Rica on Sunday, June 28, to join the team ahead of the regional championship.
Los Ticos were drawn into Group C of the tournament, along with Jamaica, Suriname and one team to be determined in the Preliminary Round. Costa Rica will kick off their run in the tournament on Monday, July 12 at 8:00 p.m. CT. Their opponent is still to be determined. Their second match will be against Suriname on Friday, July 16 at 7:30 p.m. CT, before closing out group play against Jamaica on Tuesday, July 20 at 6:00 p.m. CT. All matches will take place at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Fla. and will be televised on the Univisión family of networks.
Prior to the start of the 2021 Gold Cup Group Stage, 12 teams will compete in the Preliminary Round (Prelims) from July 2-6, 2021. These matches will take place at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, FL, and will determine the final three teams in the Gold Cup Group Stage.
The Group Stage of the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup will kick off on July 10 and will run through July 20. At the end of the Group Stage, the top two teams from each group will advance to the Quarterfinals. State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, and AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas will play host to the Quarterfinal doubleheaders on July 24 and 25, respectively.
The Fire defender joins the Costa Rica National Team for the second consecutive Gold Cup, having also been on the roster for the 2019 edition. Calvo has played 56 matches and scored seven goals for Costa Rica, most recently in the 2-2 tie against Honduras on June 6, 2021, in the 2021 Concacaf Nations League Finals.
