Fox Smashes Fisher Cats Past Phils, 4-3

MANCHESTER, N.H. - New Fisher Cat Jake Fox had a quiet weekend against New Britain after driving in two runs in the opening game of the season. On Monday night, he announced his presence again. The slugger belted two home runs, including a go-ahead three-run blast in the bottom of the eighth, to power the Fisher Cats past the Reading Fightin Phils, 4-3, on Monday night.

Fox' first blast came with New Hampshire (4-1) trailing by a 2-0 margin in the bottom of the sixth. The top of the inning saw Reading right-fielder Brian Pointer belt his first Double-A home run. Fox answered in the bottom with a long solo shot to left field that measured an estimated 425 feet.

Reading answered right back in the seventh when Roman Quinn doubled down the line in left to score former Blue Jays farmhand Art Charles. The base hit was the third for Quinn, rated Philadelphia's No. 4 prospect by Baseball America.

The lead stayed at 3-1 into the eighth inning when the Fisher Cats rallied against reliever Elvis Araujo (L; 0-1). Dwight Smith Jr. began the inning with a double, which was his third hit of the season. With one out, K.C Hobson extended his hitting streak to five games to put runners at the corners.

Fox followed, and he walloped a fastball off one-third of the way up the video board to push New Hampshire in front, 4-3. The blast was estimated at 409 feet, and gave the Fisher Cats their first multi-homer game since Brad Glenn on August 26, 2014.

The late rally took starter Mike Lee off the hook for the loss. He pitched into the eighth inning, allowing three runs on nine hits. He turned the ball over to Luis Perez (W; 1-0), who worked four outs for his first win for the Fisher Cats since May 25, 2010. Blake McFarland (S; 1) grabbed the final two outs for his first save of the season.

With a winning homestand now guaranteed, the Fisher Cats can clinch their second straight series beginning at 5:35 p.m. on Tuesday night.
