Tom Windle pitched a quality start for the Fightin Phils (2-2) but it was ruined by former Fightin Phil Jake Fox as he hit two home runs to lead the Fisher Cats (4-1) to a 4-3 victory.
Reading scored first in the top of the 3rd inning as Carlos Alonso hit a RBI groundout to score Roman Quinn, who tripled off Fisher Cats starter Mike Lee to give the Fightins a 1-0 lead. Reading added another run in the top of the 6th inning off Lee as Brian Pointer hit his first Double-A home run to take a 2-0 lead.
Windle gave up his first Double-A home run in the bottom of the 6th inning as Jake Fox hit a solo home run with one out to cut the lead to 2-1. Reading retook a two-run lead, 3-1 as Roman Quinn hit a RBI double and would ultimately fall a home run shy of the cycle.
Windle left after the 6th inning and handed the ball to Elvis Araujo (0-1, BS 1). Araujo pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the 7th inning but got in trouble in the bottom of the 8th inning. He gave up a leadoff double to Dwight Smith Jr. then got Andy Burns to fly out to right field. K.C. Hobson singled to move Smith Jr. over to 3rd base then Jake Fox hit a three-run home run to give the Fisher Cats a 4-3 lead.
Luis Perez (1-0) earned the win for New Hampshire while Blake McFarland earned his first save.
