
Fowler's Homer Saves Day for Wings

Edinburg, TX - With the Harlingen WhiteWings (5-8) trailing the Edinburg Coyotes (6-6) 4-3 and two outs in the eighth, David Fowler hit a three-run home run into the left field bullpen to send the âWings to a 6-4 win tonight at Edinburg Stadium. The WhiteWings have won two-straight for the first time this season.
Fowler's shot came against Adam Clay (0-1), who allowed three runs on three hits with one strikeout in two innings of work.
That made a winner of Juan Jimenez (1-0) in his season debut. Jimenez threw two perfect innings, striking out two.
Derek Bennett pitched a perfect eighth for his first hold while Caleb Balbuena picked up his first save with a perfect ninth.
In all, the WhiteWings bullpen pitched four perfect innings, while striking out four.
The Coyotes struck first in the first as Gary Roche his a one-out single against Dan Valentin. One out later, Logan Wood and Jason Arrowood drew walks to set up a Jermaine Williams two-run single, making 2-0.
The WhiteWings got one back against Aaron Guerra in the second as Argelis Nunez drew a one-out walk and later scored on an RBI-single by Carl Johnson. It was Johnson's first hit and RBI as a WhiteWing.
The Coyotes got that one right back with two outs in the bottom of the second as Nick Aranda singled, stole second, and scored on an RBI-double by Eric Gonzalez.
With one out in the fifth, Roche and Daryl Jones hit back-to-back infield singles. The runners were in motion on a 3-2 pitch to Wood and Kevin Griffin's throw ricoched into the WhiteWings' dugout to score Roche and make it 4-1.
Nunez led off the top of the six by getting hit by a pitch. One out later Johnson reached on an infield single. An out after that, Bub Bergstrom hit a two-run double to make it 4-3.
The WhiteWings and Coyotes will be back in action tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Kenny Evoniuk (0-1) is expected to start against left-hander Bric Steed (0-1).
