Coyotes Lose Down the Stretch

EDINBURG, TX- The Edinburg Coyotes could not muster up enough runs down the stretch to give them a Game 1 edge over their ULB rival. Instead, the Harlingen WhiteWings defeated the Coyotes after a three-run homer from David Fowler in the top of the eighth to give them a 6-4 victory Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The homerun gives Fowler his second of the season to go along with nine RBIs.
Juan Jimenez picked up his first win in his debut with the WhiteWings (5-8) while Caleb Balbuena picked up his first save. Adam Clay picked up his first loss for the Coyotes.
The Coyotes (6-6) drew first blood as they were able to pick up two runs in the bottom of the first after Jermaine Williams singled to right field bringing in Gary Roche from third and Logan Wood from second.
WhiteWings answered back in the second inning as they were able to drive in a run after a single to left from Carl Johnson to bring in Nunez from third.
In the second inning, Coyotes' center fielder Nick Arana singled to center field. He then stole second and scored off an RBI double from Eric Gonzalez pushing the lead to two.
Coyotes were able to put another run in the bottom of the fifth as Roche scored on a poor throw from the catcher to the third baseman. WhiteWings cut the lead to one in the top of the sixth after Bub Bergstrom doubled to left bringing in Nunez from second and Johnson from first.
With two outs and two WhiteWings' runners on base, Frowler crushed one over the left field fence to propel them to a 6-4 lead in the top of the eighth.
Balbuena pitched a perfect ninth inning to seal the victory for the WhiteWings.
The Coyotes will take on the WhiteWings in Game 2 tomorrow at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
