San Antonio Missions News Release

San Antonio - San Antonio started off hot but Arkansas responded in kind to lock up their first road series win of the year, beating the Missions 5-3.

Travelers' starter Ariel Pena continued his first inning struggles giving up three runs (one earned) while the Missions sent eight batters to the plate. San Antonio leadoff man Dean Anna showed he's capable of getting things going, hitting 1-for-3 with two walks and a triple.

The Missions looked poised to strike again in the second, but Nate Frieman, who has been struggling recently, grounded out to end the inning with runners on first and third.

San Antonio experienced a little bit of déjà vu from last night when Arkansas scored four runs in the fourth inning, three coming on a bases clearing double by third baseman Renny Osuna. Starter Hayden Beard walked all three base runners, and Travs' first baseman Casey Haerther singled in Osuna to raise their lead to two.

Pena followed his three-run first inning with four scoreless; pitching five and a third total innings to earn his third win of the season. San Antonio's bullpen continued its tear this homestand by increasing its scoreless inning streak to 24 and two-thirds, and recorded 8 strikeouts in 5 innings.

San Antonio had the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, but with two outs, Freiman grounded out to second base to end the inning, lowering his season average with the bases loaded to .111 (1-for9). The Missions couldn't get anything going after the first inning ending the game on eight scoreless innings.

Final game of the homestand will be tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. as the Travelers look to get their first sweep since April 19-22 when they beat the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. San Antonio hands the ball to right-hander Eddie Kunz (0-1, 4.50 ERA) and Arkansas will start fellow righty Orangel Arenas (2-4, 4.78 ERA).

Mondays are WellMed Senior Sluggers games. All seniors 65 and over or those eligible for MediCare, will receive a complimentary reserved seat ticket and drink (bottled water or soda).

You can catch all the Missions action on KKYX 680 AM, the home of Missions baseball with Roy Acuff and Mike Saeger.
