Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Spitters (6-6) won their fourth straight game at home, this one a 3-2 finish over the Kokomo Jackrabbits (4-8) to improve to .500 on the season.

The Pit Spitters jumped on top with three runs in the fourth. Christian Beal, Jared Miller and Jake Smallwood singled to load the bases with no outs. Camden Traficante scored one on a groundout. Hunter Tabb introduced himself to the fans with a two-out two-RBI single in his first game, giving his team a 3-0 lead.

Kokomo answered right back in the fifth, with a home run, triple, and RBI single, all on the first pitch of the at bats. But starter Derek Clark would leave the tying run stranded to end the inning.

Clark finished the game with four hits and two runs, while striking out nine batters through six innings. He is the first pitcher to record 9+ strikeouts in a game this season.

The bullpen finished the game strong, preserving the one-run lead. Duncan Lutz pitched two scoreless, retiring all six batters he faced. Mitch White allowed two runners to reach in the ninth, but left the tying and go-ahead runs on base, picking up his second save of the season.

The Pit Spitters wrap up the home stand with a two-game series against the Rockford Rivets. First pitch on Sunday is 5:05 ET. Aren Gustafson is scheduled to start.
