Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Kannapolis, NC - A pair of two-run, bases loaded singles in the tenth inning from Nick Liles and Luke Anders gave the Augusta GreenJackets a four-run cushion that provided the difference in a 13-9 win in ten innings over the Kannapolis Intimidators on Monday night.

Things didn't get crazy in the game until the eighth and ninth innings - a two-inning stretch that saw both teams combine for ten runs. With the game tied at four, Augusta went up by three in the eighth with run scoring singles by Tommy Joseph and Ryan Lollis with a sacrifice fly from Daniel Cook in the middle. The Intimidators scored twice to cut the lead to one, but Ryan Cavan's second home run of the night pushed the lead to three in the ninth.

In the bottom of the ninth, Jose Valdez got an out and then loaded the bases before Nick Ciolli's two-run single cut the Augusta lead to one. Brady Shoemaker's groundout brought in the tying run from third and eventually sent the game into extras. The Jackets batted around in their half of the tenth and loaded the bases with two outs before the Liles single put Augusta on top for good. After the Liles hit, Chris Dominguez was intentionally walked to reload the bases before the Anders single. With the hit, Anders became the first GreenJacket this season to record a five-hit game and only the seventh player in the league to do so this year.

The first of Cavan's two home runs put the Jackets up in the first inning - making Monday the second straight game in which Cavan has homered in the first inning. Four of Cavan's seven home runs this season have come in this five-game series in Kannapolis. Augusta grew the lead to three on a Chris Dominguez RBI double and a run-scoring groundout from Tommy Joseph.

Kannapolis tied things with a three-run fourth inning, but Dominguez put the Jackets back on top with his second home run in as many nights. His solo shot - Dominguez's 12th home run of the year - put the Jackets back in the lead. Kyle Colligan answered in the sixth for the Intimidators though with a solo shot of his own to tie things at four.

Mitch Lively (4-1) survived an inning and a third, leaving a man at first in the tenth to preserve Augusta's fourth straight win. Zach Piccola (0-3) served up all four tenth inning runs to take the loss for the Intimidators.

The GreenJackets took four of five from the Intimidators and with their 20 hits, the Jackets pounded out 20 hits or more for the second straight day. Augusta is now 6-1 in extra innings with the win on Monday night.

Chris Heston (2-8, 5.43) takes the ball for the GreenJackets on Tuesday night when they return to Lake Olmstead Stadium to open a five-game series with the Charleston RiverDogs. Jairo Heredia (2-1, 4.50) will get the nod on the mound for the RiverDogs. First pitch will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
