Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - After a successful two weeks on the road, with a 4-0 record, the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders finally get to play for their hometown fans at The Stable. Home Opener Weekend kicks off on Saturday, October 17th
with a tough game against the Chicago Steel at 7PM. The Riders face a short turnaround, as they come back the next afternoon to battle the Des Moines Buccaneers at 4PM.
RoughRiders Head Coach and General Manager Mark Carlson comments on their Saturday night game against Chicago, "We know they're a good club, and one of the things our guys have learned this year so far is that in this league, every team is good - a lot of our guys come from other junior leagues, where sometimes you play opponents that aren't very good - but in this league, you have to be ready every single night. We respect all of the teams, and we respect every opponent."
Regarding the excitement of finally playing at home, after a long two weeks on the road, Carlson had this to say - "Well it will be an exciting night here for us, we are certainly looking forward to it, but our philosophy really doesn't change that much. Playing road games, we've had a mentality of how we want to approach things, and we'll do the same here this weekend. We've played two home games already in our tournament here, during the Battle of Iowa, and this weekend we'll come out and play hard again - we are going to be concerned with how hard we work, and that's really going to be about it."
Something new at The Stable this year is Happy Hour, which will start one hour and fifteen minutes before every home game. Happy Hour will feature drink specials and gives fans a time to socialize and get revved up for the game. Showtime will start an hour before each home game, and thus coincides with Happy Hour. The pre-game entertainment will include a light show, videos, music, and more. The hope is that fans will come out to The Stable early to enjoy the new, exciting atmosphere which has been created over the past few months.
Several ticket specials and promotions are available for fans to take advantage of this weekend. Every attendee for both the Saturday and Sunday game will receive the Riders 2009-2010 magnetic schedule, which are typically kept as collectors items. A "three for two" weekend ticket package is also available. Fans who purchase a ticket for both the October 17th and October 18th game will receive a free ticket good for select future RoughRiders home games. There will be 8 home games for which this voucher will be redeemable.
Another great deal happening out at The Stable is the Family 4-Pack - which makes it easy for families to come out and enjoy the game and have a meal, for a great price. The Family 4-Pack starts at $44 for the Yellow Zone, and includes 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 sodas and 2 popcorns.
Happy Hour starts at 5:45 PM on Saturday the 17th, and at 2:45 PM on Sunday the 18th . Tickets can be purchased by calling 319-261-GOAL or online at www.ridertownusa.com
