Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Breast Cancer Awareness Night
In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Waterloo Black Hawks are proud to host their fourth annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night Saturday, sponsored by Dr. Douglas Duven and the Cedar Valley Breast Care Center. The Hawks' team captains and goalies will use pink sticks, and the officials will wear pink uniforms, which will be auctioned off after the game. Proceeds from the auction, plus a portion of sales from special pink t-shirts and hats at Party Town Outfitters, will benefit the Beyond Pink TEAM, a local organization helping breast cancer patients in the Cedar Valley. In addition, Elizabeth, Janet, Al, and Justin from Smitty's Bar on Jefferson Street have pledged to donate all of their tips, plus 20% of profits, from all business Saturday.
Bouncing Back
While last Friday's performance during the Black Hawks' 9-1 loss at Sioux Falls might have been forgettable, it may be worth remembering what happened the last time Waterloo suffered a similarly big defeat. Last season on February 28th, the Hawks were shutout 11-0 in Green Bay. Six days later they returned to the ice to edge Lincoln 3-2 in overtime, their first road win against the Stars since the spring of 2005. It was also the first of seven consecutive victories, as the Black Hawks posted a 10-3-0 record to cap the regular season.
Off the Ice
Forward Nick Sorkin and defenseman Tony Turgeon were the only two Black Hawks to play Friday but not be on the ice when any of Sioux Falls' nine goals were scored.
Opponents Meet
The Hawks opponents this coming weekend played head-to-head in Omaha Friday, with the Fargo Force topping the host Lancers 5-2. Matt Leitner scored twice for Fargo, who capitalized on four of nine power plays.
