Indiana Ice News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Ice expanded their representation at the World Junior A Challenge to six members as forwards Shane Berschbach, Nic Dowd and John Parker and defenseman Nick Mattson were selected as part of the 22-man U.S. Junior Select roster that will participate from November 1-8 at the tournament in Summerside, P.E.I.
Dowd is the current points leader (6) for the Ice and will be joined by fellow forwards Berschbach and Parker. The latter duo were members of the Ice's 2009 Clark Cup championship squad. Dowd was a 2009 NHL Draft Pick of the Los Angeles Kings and is headed to St. Cloud State next fall. Berschbach and Parker will play collegiately in the future at Miami University and UMass-Amherst respectively.
Mattson is playing in his first season with the Ice after spending last year with the U.S. National Development Team based out of Ann Arbor, MI. The talented blueliner will take his game to North Dakota in 2010.
The four Indiana skaters will join head coach Jeff Blashill and Director of Team Services, Darrin Flinchem, at the November tourney as the duo will serve as assistant coach and equipment manager for the United States squad.
"I am excited to have our four guys be part of this U.S. team," said Blashill. "I know they will be ready to face the great challenge the tournament presents."
This is the fourth year for the World Junior A Challenge. Teams represented in the tournament this year will be Belarus, Canada East, Canada West, Russia, Sweden, and the United States.
