
Four Flying Tigers Selected to Florida State League All-Star Game

Lakeland, FL - The Florida State League 2007 All-Star teams were announced by League President Chuck Murphy. Left-handed pitcher Luke French, first baseman Ryan Roberson and outfielders Cameron Maybin and Michael Hernandez will represent the Flying Tigers at the 46th annual FSL All-Star Game. The All-Star Game will be played at historic Jackie Robinson Ballpark, home of the Daytona Cubs, on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at 7:05 pm.
Luke French leads the Flying Tigers starting pitching staff with a 2.77 ERA, 65.0 innings pitched, 43 strikeouts and 11 games started. French, the Detroit Tigers eighth round pick in 2004, represents the only left-handed pitcher to be selected to the West team. His 65.0 innings pitched is currently 4th in the FSL.
Ryan Roberson, the Tigers 30th round pick in 2005, has enjoyed a breakout season for the Flying Tigers. Roberson currently leads the FSL with 11 homeruns. His .302 batting average is currently 10th in the league for the 6-5 first baseman out of George Washington University. Roberson is also 2nd in the league with a .571 slugging percentage, 2nd in the league with 28 extra base hits and 4th in the FSL with 16 doubles.
Center Fielder Cameron Maybin, the Detroit Tigers 2006 Minor League Player of the Year, has been named to his 2nd All-Star team in his second season of professional baseball. Maybin, the Tigers first round pick in 2005, ranks among the FSL leaders in many offensive categories. The 10th overall pick in the 2005 draft currently ranks 7th in the league with a .311 batting average. Maybin is 2nd in the FSL with 16 stolen bases, 2nd in on-base percentage .428 and 3rd in the league with 38 runs scored. He is one of the league's best power speed threats and has added 6 homeruns and 25 RBI.
Outfielder Michael Hernandez will play in his first professional All-Star game. Hernandez currently ranks 2nd in the FSL with 37 RBI. The non-drafted free agent out of Oklahoma State University was the Florida State League player of the week for April 30-May 6. Hernandez also ranks 5th in the league with a .503 slugging percentage.

In 1946, Jackie Robinson came to town for spring training with the Montreal Royals, the Brooklyn Dodgers Triple-A farm club. He was banned from playing in Jacksonville and Sanford, but not in Daytona. He debuted here on March 17, 1946. His first plate appearance came in an exhibition game against their parent club, the Brooklyn Dodgers. Robinson then became the first African-American player in the Major Leagues. In memory of the first site hosting a racially integrated game in baseball history, the ballpark was renamed "Jackie Robinson Ballpark" in 1990.
Lakeland has hosted the All-Star game twice in the past nine seasons, 1999 and 2006. In 2006 Lakeland drew 5,946 fans to the game, the second most in FSL history. Lakeland Tiger Jeff Frazier was named the MVP of the game in a 7-4 West victory. The West has won the past three contests.
