Biloxi Shuckers News Release
MONTGOMERY, AL - The Biloxi Shuckers (2-1) scored four runs in the first three innings en route to a 5-2 victory over the Montgomery Biscuits (1-2) on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium. Corey Ray homered for the first time this season while starter Kodi Medeiros picked up his first Double-A win.
Leading 1-0 going to the third, Ray started the inning off with a bang, drilling a home run over the right field wall, his first as a member of the Shuckers. ?Troy Stokes Jr. and Lucas Erceg followed with a walk and a single, respectively, before the first outs of the inning were recorded on a double play. The Shuckers put together a two-out rally, stringing together three consecutive singles from Trent Grisham, Blake Allemand and Dylan Moore to push the lead to 4-0.
Medeiros (1-0) didn't allow a run in 5.0 innings of work. After surrendering a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first, the left-hander retired the next seven batters in a row, and ten of the next 11. The 20th ranked prospect in the Brewers organization gave up just three hits and walked three while striking out four as part of his debut for Biloxi.
The Shuckers added another run in the seventh inning without a hit. Troy Stokes Jr. walked, advanced to second on a passed ball, move to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch. It was the second time in the game the Shuckers scored without the aid of a hit.
The Biscuits threatened twice in the late innings but Shuckers pitching was able to limit the damage. After Josh Uhen walked the bases loaded to start the eighth, Tristan Archer entered the game and forced a pair of groundouts, giving up two runs while keeping the Shuckers lead intact. Nate Griep pitched the ninth inning for a second straight night and recorded the first two outs of the inning on a fly out and a strikeout. The Shuckers closer got into a jam after back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases, but the 24-year-old wriggled off the hook and picked up his second save when Mac Jones flew out to right to end the game.
Game four of a five-game series against the Biscuits is on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 pm. RHP Thomas Jankins (NR) makes his first start at Double-A for the Shuckers opposite Montgomery RHP Benton Moss. The game can be heard in Biloxi on Cruisin' 1240-AM and 100.9 FM, TuneIn Radio or the MiLB First Pitch app.
The Shuckers home opener is on Wednesday, April 11 at 6:35 pm against the Mississippi Braves.
