Keystone Ice Miners News Release

SPRINGFIELD, IL - The Ice Miners never lost more than three in a row last season while in Port Huron and tonight in Springfield, they made sure it wasn't going to happen this year either, at least not yet. Keystone got goals four different scorers while Nick Kossoff made 27 saves for his first NAHL shutout in a 4-0 final score from Nelson Center.

In the first period, the Ice Miners peppered Springfield goaltender Dryden McKay with 17 shots, but only one goal. Noah Batis was set up on the powerplay by Jacob Coleman, for his team leading 5th goal. Shots were 17-3 and the score was 1-0 at the end of 20 minutes. In the 2nd period, the floodgates opened at 13:16 when Jon Hall cashed in a rebound from a Niko Coffman shot and Garrett Hallford followed scoring just 31 seconds later. Austin Romzek squeezed a shot between McKay's pads at 19:01 and it was a 4-0 game through two periods.

Neither team scored in the 3rd period but Kossoff stopped all 16 Junior Blues' shots to earn the shutout and his 2nd win of the season. The Ice Miners improved to 6-5-1, and kept pace with the first place Soo Eagles. With the Eagles idle tomorrow, the Ice Miners have a chance to reclaim first place in the North as they take on the Jr. Blues again at 4:00 ET/ 3:00 CT. The game can be found on FASTHockey.com, with the "away" feed carrying the Ice Miners broadcast network.
