Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

HARLINGEN- Derek Marshall drove in six runs as the Ft. Worth Cats (16-9) took sole possession of first place in the North American Baseball League's South Division with an 11-9, 11-inning victory at Rio Grande Valley.

Marshall's 3-run homer to left in the top of the fourth inning off WhiteWings starter Coleman Stephens gave the Cats a 6-4 lead, while the catcher's 2-run single to left in the seventh off Eddie Dennis Jr. gave Ft. Worth a 9-6 advantage. Marshall then capped the scoring following a bases loaded walk from Brandon Jones with a sacrifice fly in the 11th.

Rio Grande Valley's Luis Somozo capped a 3-run rally in the eighth with a 2-run single to tie the game, 9-9. Somozo, a former Boston and Atlanta farmhand who most recently had played in Japan, is 11 for 22 since joining the WhiteWings (14-10) last week.

"I believe Somozo is going to be one of the best players in this league," said Whitewings manager Eddie Dennis.

Cats manager Curtis Wilkerson was ejected in the game by home plate umpire Hugo Cruz for lingering after arguing pitch calls.

Rio Grande Valley hosts Ft. Worth again in the third game of their four game series tonight at 7:05 p.m.
