Colts win a slugfest

SAN ANGELO, TX - In a game that featured 7 total home runs, and 26 total hits, it was the last one off the bat of LF Jamar Walton that propelled the San Angelo Colts to a 10-8 win at Foster Field.

The Prairie Dogs had the lead early and often in the game. Wilson Batista started the offense with a 2-run home run in the first inning, his 3rd in the last four games, to give starter Billy Petrick a 2-0 lead. After Petrick allowed both runs back in the 1st inning, the Prairie Dogs took the lead again 3-2 in the 2nd when Wilson Batista reached safely on an error to score C Zach Welch.

In the third, Kyle Nichols began the inning with his first of two doubles in the game. RF Chris Caves then drove a 1-2 delivery from starter Mark Willinsky out for the second 2-run of the game for the Prairie Dogs. It was Caves' first home run since arriving from the Camden Riversharks of the Atlantic League during the series with Ft. Worth last week.

The bats kept rolling in the 4th for the Prairie Dogs when Wilson Batista drew a 2-out walk and LF Joe Weik clubbed his team leading 5th home run and the 3rd 2-run homer of the game for Abilene.

With a 7-2 deficit, it was the Colts' turn to utilize the home run ball. SS Landon Camp walked to start the inning was then erased on a fielder's choice by DH Cory Patton. With Patton on, 3B Jason Crosland crushed a 2-2 offering over the wall.

In sixth, San Angelo drew even for the first time on a 3-run home run by C Josh Banda. Landon Camp and Cory Patton started the inning with consecutive singles. After LF Jamar Walton grounded into a fielders choice, Banda rocked a 1-2 offering from reliever David Slovak to tie the game at 7.

The team's traded runs in the 7th and were tied at 8 entering the eighth inning.

With Jeremy Tietze on the mound, 3B Jason Crosland started the inning with a single. Walton crushed a 3-0 delivery over the wall in right-field to win a back and forth game.

On the mound, the Colts got 6+ innings from starter Mark Willinsky who finished his outing after allowing his 13th hit to Kyle Nichols in the 7th inning. He was charged with 8 runs, walked 3 and struck out 2. Reliever Mike Hart picked up his first win of the season with two scoreless innings of relief.

For the first time this season, every Prairie Dog pitcher that appeared allowed a run including Scott Vander Weg who has now allowed runs in 4 of his last 6 appearances.

The Prairie Dogs return to Walt Driggers on Wednesday for game three of the eight game series between these teams.
