
Bats Come Alive in Roadrunners Victory

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners pounded out 15 hits defeating the McAllen Thunder 8-5 Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The Roadrunners (14-12) used six extra-base hits including two-run homeruns from Stantrel Smith and Carlos Hereaud.
The Thunder (8-18) got on the board in the bottom of the first when a ground ball double play allowed Craig Hertler to score from third making it 1-0.
Smith gave the Roadrunners the lead with a two-run homerun, his first of the season, in the top of the second which made it 2-1.
In the top of the third, Hereaud delivered his two-run homerun extending Edinburg's lead 4-2.
After McAllen got a run in the bottom of the third, they tied the game at four in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run double by Gianison Rosa.
Both teams picked up runs in the fifth inning. Pascual Del Real hit an RBI single for the Roadrunners and Mike Goss tied it at five with an RBI single for the Thunder.
The Roadrunners regained the lead in the top of the sixth with RBI singles from Hereaud and Derek Perren that made it 7-5.
An RBI single by Wilmer Pino in the top of the seventh extended the Edinburg lead to 8-5.
Edinburg's bullpen pitched four and a third innings of scoreless baseball. Julio Castro got the win after he pitched two and a third innings scattering two hits with two strikeouts. Paul Koss got his second save with a scoreless ninth giving Edinburg the 8-5 victory.
The Roadrunners and Thunder will continue their four-game series Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Edinburg will be the home team with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
