Fort Lauderdale United FC News Release
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Fort Lauderdale United FC is thrilled to announce the signing of former Carolina Ascent midfielder Kathrynn González ahead of the 2025/26 Gainbridge Super League season, pending league and federation approval.
"Gonzalez has a proven track record on both the international and professional stages, representing the Dominican Republic national team," said Ali Rogers, Associate Head Coach of Fort Lauderdale United FC. "Her exceptional composure on the ball, vision, and technical precision allows her to control and dictate the rhythm of play in midfield. In the final third, her ability to deliver decisive passes and threaten with accurate shots consistently changes games and makes her a vital asset to our squad."
A creative force in the midfield, Gonzalez exemplifies the qualities Fort Lauderdale demands in its attacking playmakers. Her command on the ball, elite vision in threading incisive passes and ability to strike with power and precision from distance make her a constant threat. Paired with the club's pace and width in the final third, her presence adds another dynamic layer to Fort Lauderdale's already potent attack.
"Gonzalez is a dynamic addition to our squad who immediately elevates our attacking potential," said Aly Hassan, General Manager of Fort Lauderdale United FC. "Her ability to read the game, pick out key passes, and strike from distance makes her a perfect fit for the style we want to play here in Fort Lauderdale."
Gonzalez began her collegiate career at East Carolina, spending two seasons with the Pirates before transferring to Marshall, where she quickly became a key figure for the Thundering Herd. Over her final two seasons, she started all 35 matches and capped off her college career with a standout 2022 campaign, tallying 7 goals and 3 assists while leading the Sun Belt in shots (68) and earning All-Sun Belt Second Team honors.
The midfielder opener her professional career with Danish first-division side Thisted, where she made five appearances during the 2023/24 season. Ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, she returned stateside and joined Carolina Ascent FC, playing a key role in the club's run to the inaugural Players' Shield - awarded to the team with the league's best regular-season record. The midfielder appeared in 23 matches, starting 7, and logged 843 minutes across the 29-match season. Gonzalez tallied her lone goal of the season in the Super League Semifinal against Fort Lauderdale, while also adding an assist, 18 key passes, 32 duels won and a 75.1% passing accuracy across the campaign.
Gonzalez has also been a mainstay with the Dominican Republic National Team, dating all the way back to 2021. The Marshall product played a pivotal role in the nation's qualification for the inaugural W Gold Cup, scoring the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory over Guyana during the 2024 Prelims. Gonzalez most recently featured in a pair of friendlies against Honduras, starting both while scoring a goal in the initial match on May 29.
An experienced pro with National team experience, Gonzalez will look to be a key piece for Fort Lauderdale United's attack as it continues building its squad with an eye on another title run.
