Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today that outfielder Ridge Carpenter has been signed for the 2012 season.
Carpenter, 22, batted .320 in 51 games last season with the Goldeyes, which was his first professional season. The product of Honolulu, Hawaii also contributed a home run and 17 RBI, while sporting an impressive .404 on-base percentage and .464 slugging percentage. He can also play all three outfield positions.
"For him to produce like he did for us last year, he really is worthy of an opportunity of coming back and playing again," Forney said. "He's a dynamic player."
Carpenter will retain his rookie status for the 2012 season because a player's first season of independent baseball doesn't count towards his status.
"To have a successful team, you have to have rookies that can play and contribute on a nightly basis," Forney said. "Ridge certainly helps balance out our line up and brought a lot to our team last year. Hopefully with the year experience he can come in and pick up where he left off."
The Goldeyes now have five players signed for the 2012 season, including one pitcher and four position players.
Fans looking to purchase season tickets and nine-game mini packs for the 2012 season can call the Goldeyes office at 982-BASE (2273) or visit the Shaw Park box office.
