Former Yard Dawg, A.J. Haglund, Named AFL Kicker of the Year

NEW YORK - The Arena Football League announced today former Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz kicker, A.J. Haglund (5-8, 175, Central Oklahoma), was named the 2008 Kicker of the Year as voted by AFL head coaches, players, fans, and the AFL Writers Association.

Haglund, who earned All-Arena First Team honors last week, led all kickers in scoring (179 points) while connecting on 21-of-25 (84.0 percent) field goal attempts and converting 116-of-124 extra-point attempts. He also registered 26 touchbacks and recorded 16.0 tackles for the San Jose SaberCats.

After signing with the SaberCats in 2007, Haglund was named to the AFL's All-Rookie Team. During the 16 regular season games of the 2007 season, he also broke the AFL single-season extra point record with 128-of-138 PATs.

While with the Yard Dawgz, Haglund was named New Balance Kicker of the Year in 2006. That year, he led all kickers in scoring with 146 points, a total that ranks third all-time for points by a kicker in a season. He also made 10 field goals, with five coming from 30 yards or longer. After missing a second quarter extra point in Week 6, Haglund connected on 69 straight extra points a streak that lasted 10 weeks until a third quarter extra point was blocked in Week 16. Haglund also had the best season for point after accuracy in af2 history, converting on 93.5 percent (116-of-124) of his point after attempts. The former Central Oklahoma Broncho also excelled on kickoffs, recording 23 touchbacks in 2006.
