Florida Firecats News Release
Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats have fallen to fourth place in the American Conference in this week's playoff standings the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today.
After a last-second 59-56 loss to the Conference leading Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers, the Firecats (8-4) are now in second place in the South Division, a half game behind the South Georgia Wildcats (9-4). If Florida wins on Thursday night, the Firecats would move back into first place in the division since Florida beat South Georgia in two of the three teams' match-ups this season.
After its dramatic comeback win at Germain Arena, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (11-2) is now two games ahead of South Georgia and third-seeded Green Bay for the conference lead. Two more wins will assure the Pioneers of their second straight regular season conference championship.
Eight teams in each conference qualify for the af2 playoffs, with games being played at the highest seed. The conference winners will square off in the ArenaCup, the championship game of af2, which will be held at the venue of the participating team with the best overall record. The Firecats hosted the ArenaCup in 2004, the year the team won its only af2 championship.
