Spokane Shock News Release
July 1, 2008 - Spokane, WA: The arenafootball2 league announced today that QB Nick Davila has won the Schutt Offensive Player of the week while Raul Vijil earned the Cutter's Catch award for his one-handed touchdown catch in the second quarter.
Davila's performance against the 2nd place Central Valley Coyotes set Shock single-game records for passing yards, (367) pass attempts (50) and pass completions (34). Additionally, Davila accounted for eight total touchdowns (two on the ground, six through the air) in the Shock's victory over the Coyotes.
Vijil, the Shock's all-time leading receiver with 214 career receptions, is ranked third in the league in scoring averaging 18.5 points per game with 37 touchdowns. However, none of these 37 touchdowns were more impressive than his one handed seven-yard touchdown from Davila in the second quarter.
"He used every bit of his 5-10 frame on that catch," Head Coach Adam Shackleford said. "Playing the wing position in our offense we need him to make big-plays and sometimes he makes catches like those look easy."
This is the first award that Davila has won in his rookie af2 campaign and it is the first time this season Vijil has won the Cutter's Catch Award.
The three-time Western Division Champion Shock have a bye this week, but will return to action on July 12th as they travel to Stockton, CA to take on the Lightning. Play-off packages are available now and can be purchased by calling (509) 242 7462.
