July 1, 2008 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - Manchester wide receiver/linebacker BRADLY CHAVEZ, Spokane quarterback NICK DAVILA and Mahoning Valley defensive lineman ROYCE MORGAN have been named the JLS Ironman, Schutt Offensive Player and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 14 of the 2008 season. In addition to these three awards, the Cutters Catch of the Week Award for Week 14 goes to Spokane wide receiver RAUL VIJIL.

JLS IRONMAN OF THE WEEK

Chavez (6-2, 205, UAB) had a impressive all-around effort for Manchester in the team's 50-33 victory at home against East Division rival Albany. The third-year veteran from Alabama-Birmingham was a factor on both sides of the ball to help the Wolves win their sixth game and keep their 2008 playoff hopes alive. Chavez caught five passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns on offense. He also recorded two solo tackles and two fumble recoveries on defense, including a 20-yard fumble return touchdown to halt Albany's first drive of the night. Chavez's back-to-back scores helped give the Wolves an early 13-0 advantage. This is the second JLS Ironman honor of the season for Chavez. He also earned the award for his performance in Week 10. He currently leads the team in scoring (172 points), receptions (76) and receiving touchdowns (23) and ranks second in receiving yards (979). On the defensive side, Chavez leads the Wolves in fumble recoveries (3), ranks tied for second in interceptions (2) and is third in total tackles (29).

SCHUTT OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Davila (6-3, 210, Cincinnati), in his first af2 season, had his best outing of the season for Spokane in the team's 56-54 Week 14 home win against division rival Central Valley. The victory clinched the Shock's third West Division title in as many seasons. Davila completed 34-of-50 passes (68 percent) for 367 yards with six touchdowns and just one interception. The Cincinnati alum's marks for completions, attempts and yards all set new personal and team single-game records. Davila's 34 pass completions was also the league's highest single-game total of 2008. He contributed two rushing touchdowns on the night as well. This is the first weekly league honor of Davila's career. In 10 games played (eight starts), Davila has thrown for 2,253 yards with 51 touchdowns against just seven interceptions. He currently ranks second in the af2 in completion percentage (68.2) and third in passer rating (120.4).

ADT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Morgan (6-2, 265, Lafayette) was a menace on defense for Mahoning Valley in the team's 42-41 upset win at home in Week 14 against the Louisville Fire. The rookie defensive lineman from Lafayette was a force up front for the Thunder as the team captured its third win of the year. Morgan registered 5.0 total tackles (4 solo, 2 asst) overall, including 3.5 sacks and one pass breakup. Morgan's impressive individual effort also led to him setting two new Mahoning Valley team records in the victory, one for most sacks recorded in a game (3.5) and one for most sacks in a season (12). This is the first weekly af2 award of his career.
