Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa — ArenaBowl XVIII is finally here. The battle for all the marbles will be showcased Sunday, June 27 at 3 p.m. CDT on NBC. It will be a clash between the top two seeds for the rights to the James Foster Cup. It will be a repeat appearance for the Arizona Rattlers, as they once again make it to the ArenaBowl. The top seeded Rattlers will host second seeded Sabercats.

Rattlers fullback/linebacker Frank Trentadue, who played for the ‘Wheelers in 2002, scored the first touchdown of the game for the Rattlers to lead Arizona to a 45-41 win over the Colorado Crush. He could become the first former Steamwheelers player to hoist the cup named after the Steamwheelers managing owner/operator.

Wide receiver/linebacker Tom Pace lead the Rattlers with nine catches for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Red-hot quarterback, Sherdrick Bonner was 25-of-34 for 256 yards, five touchdowns and a pick. This will be the third straight year Arizona has made it to the ArenaBowl, losing both previous appearances. It will be a repeat appearance in ArenaBowl XVIII for the two familiar foes, who played each other two years ago. San Jose beat Arizona 54-14 in the ArenaBowl XVI.

The Sabercats defeated the fifth ranked Chicago Rush 49-35 on Saturday. The Sabercats continued their winning ways before 12,163 fans at the HP Pavilion. This will be San Jose's second trip to ArenaBowl in five seasons.

Sabercats quarterback, Mark Grieb, front-runner for Offensive Player of the Year completed 27-of-40 passes for 273 yards and five touchdowns. In a losing effort, Chad Salisbury replaced Raymond Philyaw in the second quarter because Philyaw sustained a torn ACL in his right knee. Salisbury played admirably completing 9-of-16 passes for 122 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

Make sure to catch ArenaBowl XVIII as the Sabercats and Rattlers battle for the rights to the James Foster Cup in two weeks. ArenaBowl XVIII can be seen locally on KWQC TV-6.
