Manchester Wolves News Release
Sanders Sets Team Passing Record; Others To Soon Fall
Wolves QB Chris Sanders is well on his way to rewriting the Wolves record books when it comes to passing marks. This past weekend Sanders set one new team record for most touchdown passes in a single season. Sanders' three scoring tosses at Cape Fear on Saturday give him 43 for the year, two more than the previous team benchmark of 41 set in 2002 by Cable Davis. He's also well on his way to pass Davis in a number of other passing categories, including passing yards in a season, completions and attempts.
Wolves Passing Records How close is Chris Sanders? (Difference)
Passing Yards: 2,917 (Cable Davis, 2002) 2,534 (383 yards)
Completions: 235 (Cable Davis, 2002) 189 (46 completions)
Attempts: 449 (Cable Davis, 2002) 324 (125 attempts)
Wolves On The Move; Player Comings and Goings
Late last week the Wolves were assigned wide receiver J.J. McKelvey, an af2 rookie who was a three-year letterwinner at Clemson University. In 37 career games played with the Tigers, he caught 84 passes for 1,277 yards (15.2 yards per catch) and eight touchdowns. Despite making just eight starts, McKelvey finished his career ranked in the top 15 in school history in receptions (14th) and receiving yards (15th). The 6-4, 225-pound native of Moncks, S.C. also finished seventh in Clemson history in career yards per reception among players with at least 80 catches. McKelvey's impressive collegiate resume earned him attention at the NFL level, signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an unrestricted free agent in April of 2003. In his first game action against Cape Fear, he caught four passes for 38 yards on offense and collected 2.0 tackles on defense.
