Memphis Xplorers News Release

SOUTHAVEN --- The Memphis Xplorers of af2 have been assigned OL/DL DeCorye Hampton by the league office. The Memphis native and Westwood High School product played in a total of 12 games for the Xplorers in 2002 and 2004.

"DeCorye told us he wanted to play football again," Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto said. "Along with his tremendous size, he brings an air of professionalism with him that should rub off on our younger guys."

Hampton was a Parade All-American coming of Westwood High and played at the University of Memphis from 1998-2000. He attended the Oakland Raiders training camp as an undrafted free agent in 2001. In 2003, the 6-foot-8, 360 pound Hampton played with the Carolina Cobras of the AFL. He is currently a teacher and coach at Hamilton High School in Memphis.

The Xplorers are coming off a 67-32 win over Bossier-Shreveport on Saturday that ran their season record to 6-2, putting them back in first place in the South Division. The Xplorers play at Amarillo this Sunday at 3 p.m.
