Manchester Wolves News Release
Who said former Manchester Wolves' stars J.J. McKelvey and Jake Eaton weren't going to be reunited for another playoff game? This Sunday at 3:30 p.m. (EST) on NBC-TV McKelvey's Phildelphia Soul (10-7) will be taking on Jake Eaton's Orlando Predators (10-6) in the Divisional Round of the Arena Football League playoffs at the TD Waterhouse Centre in Orlando, FL.
McKelvey (6'4, 225), is filling the shoes everyone thought he was going to wear in Philadelphia with the Soul, grabbing 34 receptions (6 th on the team) for 589 yards (3rd on the team) and 12 touchdowns (T-2nd on the team) in just ten games played. McKelvey, who has also collected 17 tackles, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery defensively, was slowed down mid-season due to a leg injury that forced him to sit out seven straight games. The Clemson University graduate from Moncks Corner, S.C. had a stellar 2005 season with the Wolves in which he shattered nine franchise records on his way to earning First Team honors on the American Conference All-af2 team.
"I've stayed in contact with Jake all year," said McKelvey of his former Wolves' teammate. "This weekend is going to be really exciting for the both of us, we can't wait to take the field on Sunday."
In Orlando, Eaton (6'2, 200) currently serves as the backup quarterback behind McKelvey's cousin and former college Heisman Trophy runner-up Joe Hamilton. Eaton has seen spot action in seven games for the Predators this season, completing 68.5% of his passes (6th in the league) for 434 yards, and eight touchdowns. The Rutland, VT native also had a standout 2005 season for the Wolves, throwing for 4,066 yards and a team-record 88 touchdowns (T-3rd in af2) on his way to earning Second Team honors on the American Conference All-af2 team.
"I knew both McKelvey and Eaton were going to have bright futures," said Wolves Head Coach Ben Bennett on his former players. "It'll be fun watching them compete against each other, it's just unfortunate that one of them will have to lose."
Another former Wolves' player, from the Mohegan Sun days in Connecticut, is Predators lineman Greg Krause (6'4, 290) from Bedford, N.H. Krause is in his third year with Orlando, and has registered 5.0 total tackles in 2006. Krause also owns Gym USA in Goffstown, N.H. and is a former University of New Hampshire and West High School graduate.
Other former Wolves' players still actively in the hunt for that Arena Bowl XX Championship are: Rob Carey (Georgia Force), Nick Myers (Chicago Rush), Charlie Cook (Chicago Rush), and Matt D'Orazio (Chicago Rush).
The Manchester Wolves (3-4) will be on the road this week against the (6-1) Wilkes-Barre Scranton Pioneers before coming back home to Brady Sullivan Field at the Verizon Wireless Arena on June 3 rd to take on the Tulsa Talons. The game will be sponsored by the Catholic Medical Center, with the first 3,000 fans receiving a FREE CMC/Wolves cap!
