Florida Firecats News Release
Estero, FL- Germain Arena will, for the 2nd straight home game, be the host for the passing of yet another af2 all-time record torch. Florida Firecats Defensive Specialist Quincy Sorrell is once again about to become the af2's all-time leading tackler. Two weeks ago Magic Benton set the all-time marks for receptions and TD receptions at Germain Arena.
In 2004 "Q" registered 100.5 tackles in the regular season, a franchise record, while laying claim to the leagues top tackler finishing the year with 287.5 career tackles, then the all-time mark.
In 2005 he opted to play for another indoor football league and was eclipsed by long time teammate and friend Roy "the Snake" Stabler, who played for the Firecats from 2002 to 2005. Last season Stabler registered 65.5 stops to overtake Sorrell for the #1 spot.
So far this year Quincy has accounted for 45.5 tackles and needs just 1.5 more to tie the former Firecat with 334.5. He is also on pace to eclipse his own single season team record for tackles averaging 6.5 per game.
"I've been blessed to have been able to stay healthy and keep playing all this time" said Sorrell of his longevity. "I suppose when it's all said and done this will be a great accomplishment to look back on, but there's still plenty of football to be played"
Quincy Sorrell will be a guest on the Dave Mouton show Friday May 26th at 4:30pm. The Dave Mouton Show can be heard Monday thru Friday from 3pm to 7pm on Sports Radio 770 AM and online at www.ABC-7.com and www.NBC-2.com.
After playing 5 of their 1st 7 games on the road the (5-2) Firecats will return home to Germain Arena to play their next 3 games, beginning this Saturday May 27th against their divisional rivals the (1-6) South Georgia Wildcats.
Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling the Firecats box office at 239-390-CATS (2287).
The Games can be heard each week on 98.9 FM WGUF Naples FM Talk and www.ABC-7.com and www.NBC-2.com.
