Bridgewater, NJ - Former Somerset Patriots right-handed pitcher Jason Dickson was named Baseball Canada President earlier today at the organization's Annual General Meeting in Toronto. He became the 11th president in Baseball Canada's 52-year history.
"I feel honoured to be taking over from Ray Carter as Baseball Canada President and hope to bring the same passion and leadership qualities that he brought to the position," said Dickson in a release on Baseball Canada's website. "It's an exciting time for amateur baseball in our country and I look forward to playing a role in the growth and development of our game from the grassroots all the way up to our National Teams program."
Dickson pitched for the Somerset Patriots during the 2003 championship season and posted a 10-5 record with a 3.50 ERA and 115 strikeouts in 149 innings pitched in 23 games started. After the season, Dickson was signed by the Milwaukee Brewers and reported to spring training with the team.
He returned for five games with the Somerset Patriots in 2004 where he was 2-2 with a 3.55 ERA and 20 strikeouts when his contract was purchased by the Kansas City Royals organization.
Before joining the Somerset Patriots, Dickson had four seasons of service at the Major League level with the Anaheim Angels. For his Major League career, Dickson was 26-25 with 214 strikeouts in 73 games.
Dickson had a 13-9 record and 117 strikeouts in over 203 innings for Anaheim in 1997 to earn a selection to the American League All-Star team.
Dickson finished his career with six years of Triple-A service for the Angels, Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays and Royals. He had a minor league career record of 57-48, a 4.03 ERA and 577 strikeouts in 136 games.
