Long Island Ducks News Release
(York, Pa.) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the York Revolution 2-1 on Wednesday night in the final game of a three-game series at PeoplesBank Park.
Long Island took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Mike Dowd hit the first pitch from Revolution starter Frank Gailey over the Arch Nemesis for a solo home run. York pulled even in the fifth on back-to-back two-out singles off Ducks starter John Brownell, including an RBI base hit by Michael Rockett.
It stayed that way until the bottom of the eighth when Travis Witherspoon led off the frame with a solo homer to left, giving York a 2-1 lead.
Scott Rice (3-0) collected the victory after pitching a scoreless inning of relief in the eighth. Brownell (4-3) suffered the hard luck loss, giving up just two runs on seven hits in seven and one-third innings with one walk and nine strikeouts. Mike DeMark earned his 19th save of the year with a scoreless ninth. Gailey did not factor into the decision but threw seven innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out seven.
Dowd led the Flock with three hits on the night.
