Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, N.D. - Former Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks All-Star LHP Jason Pearson was called up by the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday and made his first appearance with the National League club. Pearson faced--and retired--one batter in the Cardinals 6-4 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies last night at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia. The game was shown nation-wide on ESPN.

Pearson, 27, was 3-4 with a 3.30 ERA with three saves for Memphis this season. In 46.1 innings pitched, he allowed 20 runs (17 earned) on 35 hits. Pearson struck out 32 batters and walked nine. He began the season with the Tennessee Smokies of the Southern League (AA), where he was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA in nine appearances (11.0 innings).

Pearson was a Northern League All-Star with the RedHawks in 2000, going 10-2 with a 3.01 ERA in 18 appearances (16 starts). In 107.2 innings pitched, Pearson allowed 45 runs (36 earned) on 90 hits. He struck out 82 batters and walked 49 while holding opponents to a .226 batting average against him.

The RedHawks sold Pearson's contract to the Cincinnati Reds following the 2000 season and he was later selected by San Diego in the Rule 5 minor league draft in December of that year.

Pearson made his Major League debut in 2002, earning a promotion to the San Diego Padres. After appearing in two games with the Padres, Pearson was claimed on waivers by the San Francisco Giants and assigned to Triple-A Fresno. He signed with the Cardinals as a free agent this winter.
